The origins of the Rottweiler go back a long way. The Romans already used the dog as a guard dog and as a dog for driving cattle. The name of the Rottweiler goes back to the town of Rottweil. This used to be a Roman army town, where many cattle were later traded. Traders often had to travel for days with their goods to get to the town of Rottweil. When they arrived there, they noticed that the dogs were so protective of them. In addition, the dogs were very suitable for herding and driving cattle. The dogs were called Rottweilers.

In the course of time, the way of moving cattle has changed. Throughout the years, the Rottweiler has served as a draught dog and as a police dog. In recent decades, however, the Rottweiler has mainly been a family dog. In addition, the Rottweiler is also used for watchdogs, tracking and rescue work.

Although the Rottweiler has an imposing appearance, it is truly a companion animal. Towards acquaintances, the Rottweiler will have a small heart and be cuddly. However, it is important that the dog does not get bored. The animal needs a lot of physical exercise, but also wants to be intellectually challenged. If that does not happen, the dog will look for a distraction and a challenge himself. This usually leads to aggression and behavioural problems.
