With its powerful, sharp appearance, the Rottweiler is sometimes worn out for an aggressive, bite-happy dog. That is not true. The Rottweiler is a powerful dog with character and needs good training. The origins of the Rottweiler go way back. The Romans already used the dog as a guard dog and as a dog to drive cattle. The name of the Rottweiler goes back to the town of Rottweil. This used to be a Roman army town, where later many cattle were traded. Traders often had to make trips of days with their merchandise to get to the town of Rottweil. When they arrived there, they noticed that the dogs were so protective there. In addition, the dogs were great for holding cattle together and driving them. The dogs were called Rottweilers.

Over time, the method of moving livestock has changed. Throughout the years, the Rottweiler did still serve as a draft dog and a police dog. In recent decades, however, the Rottweiler has primarily been a family dog. In addition, the Rottweiler is also used for guarding, tracking, and rescue work.

Although the Rottweiler has an imposing appearance, it is truly a companion animal. Towards acquaintances, the Rottweiler will have a small heart and be cuddly. However, it is important that the dog does not get bored. The animal needs a lot of physical exercise, but also wants to be intellectually challenged. If that does not happen, the dog will seek distraction and challenge himself. This usually leads to aggression and behavioral problems.
